“Bitterness is like drinking poison and hoping that someone else will die.” -unknown
“The importance of things can be measured by how much time we are willing to invest in them…When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you’ll never get back. Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give someone is your time.”
-Rick Warren, The Purpose Driven Life
Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there was one only.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from anguish,
sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints,
so I said to the Lord,
“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life
there has only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”
The Lord replied,
“The years when you have seen only one set of footprints,
my child, is when I carried you.”
-Mary Stevenson 1984
“You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.”
-Clay P. Bedford
“No matter how much time you have in an experience or with someone you love, it will never feel like enough. So don’t think about it in terms of quantity—aim for quality, instead.”
“When you keep on concentrating on the things you wish you had or the thing you wish you didn’t have, and you sorta forget what you do have…”
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
-Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of a Course in Miracles
“Knowing what you have makes all the difference. As believers, we have been given everything we need for life and godliness, but if we don’t know it, we will never experience the reality of it.”
-Emily P. Freeman, Grace for the Good Girl
“Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow.”
– Imogen Cunningham
“It can be a trap of the photographer to think that his or her best pictures were the ones that were hardest to get.”
– Timothy Allen
“When you photograph people in colour you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in B&W, you photograph their souls!”
– Ted Grant
“While there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see.”
– Dorothea Lange
